Marthann Bennett

November 25, 1926 — June 19, 2020

Lonoke

Marthann Fletcher Bennett, age 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2020. Born on November 25, 1926 to Neill and Gladys (Wyche) Fletcher, Marthann graduated from Lonoke High School, after which she attended LSU, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Upon completing her studies in Baton Rouge, she returned home for the summer, intending to move to Atlanta for work, but her plans took a happy detour when she married her husband, Neil Bennett Sr.  They raised a family in Wright and Lonoke, Arkansas and enjoyed fifty-four wonderful years together until his passing in 2003.

A creative spirit, Marthann loved gardening, traveling, music, and spending time with friends, whether at book clubs, bridge clubs, or supporting Lonoke United Methodist Church.  Above all, she loved her family, to whom she gave unconditional love and support. They will carry her in their hearts and will honor her memory every time they throw their heads back and laugh, living lives full of joy and love, just as Marthann taught them how to do, by example. She will be dearly missed.

Marthann is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Jeannne Fletcher Bransford, and an infant son. She is survived by her children, Beverly and Doug Walker, Daina and Kevin Newcomb, and Neil and Caroline Bennett; her adored and adoring grandchildren, Charlotte and Alex Langerman, Caroline Walker, David Walker, Brodie Newcomb, Neil Newcomb, Daine and Lisa Bennett, Natalie and Andrew Wald, and Fletcher and Bailey Bennett; and her precious great-grandchildren, Montgomery and Veronica Langerman, Thompson and Tripp Bennett, Bennett Wald, and Baby Girl Bennett.

There will be a private family service and burial. In lieu of food and flowers, if you wish to make a memorial, please do so to: Lonoke United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 152 Lonoke, AR 72086 or the Neil Bennett Sr. Scholarship Foundation, 101 Natalie Drive Lonoke, AR 72086.
