Vada Wheat

Vada Carole (Ketchum) Wheat, 80, of Lonoke, AR went to be with her Lord on November 29, 2018.  Vada Carole was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, cousin, niece, friend, colleague, and sister in Christ.  She was a member of the Lonoke Apostolic Church where she taught Sunday- School for 35 years.  Vada devoted her life’s career to Public Health working for 34 years at the Lonoke County Health Department. She served as administrator of the Lonoke County Health Department for 10 years prior to her retirement. Vada’s family is a close family, to a large extent because of her kindred spirit and active love.  She was loved and respected by her family, friends, and co-workers. We will always remember her as never meeting a stranger and her strong faith in God.  Vada enjoyed going to church, cooking, spending time with her family and friends, traveling, and watching parades where you may have found her laughing and crying at the same time.

She was preceded in death by her parents J.B. and Marguerite Ketchum (former mayors of Lonoke) and her little sister, Martha.  Among those left to cherish her memory, her husband of 61 years Jack Wright Wheat (former mayor of Lonoke), sons Jack Wright Wheat II and William Todd Wheat (Frances), her two brothers Bill and J.B. Ketchum (Robyn), many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  She was surrounded by a host of family and friends during the last days of her life.  Her spirits were the highest with friends and family near.

The visitation will be Monday, December 3, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke. The funeral service will be Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at The Lonoke Apostolic Church, 5th & Eagle Street.  Interment will follow at Lonoke Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in memory of Vada Carole Wheat to Lonoke Apostolic Church, P.O.
