Sheldon Marshall Staton, 23, of Lonoke, Arkansas entered into glory with our savior on August 20, 2025. He is preceded in death by his grandparents Marion & Louis Jean Staton of Carlisle, AR and Limuel & Mary Ruth Simpson of Lonoke, AR, and aunt and uncle, David and Gwen Staton of Carlisle, AR. He is survived by his parents, Dennis & Leslie Staton, his siblings Spencer Staton, Madison (Zack) Minney, Bailey (Garrett) Walker, Shelby Staton, and his nephew, Larry Wayne Walker.
Sheldon was born on July 31, 2002. He of course came right when he was needed the most, the hospital just didn’t know it yet. During the time my mom was in labor, the hallway outside her delivery room had caught fire and nobody knew. Sheldon was on the way and my mom was able to smell the smoke and alerted the hospital of the fire. Since the day God brought him into this world, Sheldon has always had a special way of being right where he was needed the most.
Sheldon was the definition of joy. He was quick to give you a high five or to sit down and laugh with you. He could catch you off guard and would ask, “Are you ready?” The question you had was, ready for what? You would just have to say yes and he would say, “Here we go!” and off you went to do whatever he wanted. However, if the tables were turned and you asked Sheldon to do something he wasn’t in the mood for he would simply answer, “I’ll be right back.” which was code for, I’m going to wait here while you do whatever you’re wanting to do. He loved spending time with his family. He especially loved watching a good game show or singing Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, regardless of what time of year it was. He always found joy in the little things like a trip to the “blue chair” (Walmart) where he would undoubtedly try to talk you into taking a trip down the toy aisle so he could add to his collection. You would definitely have to take time to stop and try every single toy truck that lit up and made the loudest noises, just so he could see which one he liked best. He loved riding in the car to go push the red button (Sonic), even if it meant climbing over one of his siblings to do it. He would finish out his day by asking for a trip to the carwash where he would get so excited to watch all the lights and bubbles. Being around Sheldon, you couldn’t help but to be joyful too.
Sheldon was a picture of the grace and goodness of God. Doctor after doctor always had something to say about Sheldon’s health and were constantly surprised by him. Many times, my parents were given bad news and without fail, they would remind his doctors that God is in control and Sheldon Marshall is in His hands. The Lord gave us 23 wonderful years with a loving son, brother, and uncle. I have no doubt in my mind that God called him home because that’s where he needed him most. Sheldon is always right where he needs to be. Until that day we get to rejoice with him again, I am reminded of what he always told us. “It’s ok.”
