Raymond Dean Carnes

Raymond Dean Carnes Jr., 81, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026. He was born on June 12, 1945.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Dean Carnes Sr. and Ada Carnes; his sisters, Geraldine “Sissy” Talley, Carolyn Gwin, and Agnes Henson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Starns; his children, Stacy Carnes, Sherry Wise, Lisa Stivers, Kevin (Jennifer) Carnes, and Andrea (Rodney) Beedle; his brother, Dorsey (Laurel) Carnes; his sisters, Maxine Sexton and Brenda Dunlap; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends.

Raymond spent more than 40 years behind the wheel as a professional truck driver, including 36 dedicated years with Oakley Trucking, where he was affectionately known by his CB handle, “Whippoorwill”. The open road was his second home, and he took great pride in the work he did and the friendships he made along the way.

When he wasn’t driving, he could usually be found on his farm, happily piddling around with his cows or caring for the many animals he loved throughout the years. His farm was home to herds of cattle, flocks of chickens, turkeys, goats, peacocks, dogs, and countless other animals that brought him joy.

Raymond never met a stranger. He had an infectious laugh, a constant smile, and a joke ready for every occasion. He had a gift for making people laugh, often unintentionally, with his unforgettable way of mixing up names and words. Family and friends will always smile when they remember him calling Hobby Lobby “Hobster Lobster” or referring to the meteorologists as “Peter Robinson”. Those little moments became treasured family stories that perfectly captured his unique sense of humor and loveable personality.

More than anything, Raymond will be remembered for the joy he brought to those around him. His laughter, quick wit, kind heart, and unmistakable personality left an impression on everyone who knew him. He was truly one of a kind, and his memories will continue to live on in the stories, smiles, and laughter he leaves behind.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Lonoke Health and Rehab for the kindness, dignity, and care they showed Raymond during his final days. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing his long journey is over. Rest Easy Driver.
