Lester “Shorty” Turner gained his wings Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the age of 94. He was born January 19, 1932, in Gregory, Arkansas to Girdley and Laura Belle Turner. Shorty lived a life defined by service, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to his loved ones. A proud veteran of the Korean War, he carried the values of discipline and patriotism throughout his life. He became a fixture in Carlisle, known by nearly everyone for his friendly demeanor and steady presence. To many, he wasn’t just a neighbor, he was a staple of the community.
Shorty was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan; sister, Belinda Brown; and daughters, Sherry Taylor and Lisa Green.
His legacy lives on through his large and vibrant family. He is survived by his children, Leslie (Kevin) Lenderman, Justin (Emily) Turner, Charles (Bobbie) Cotner, Dennis Cotner, Deedee Maher, Melissa Cotner and Michelle Cotner. He also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces and nephews who will remember him for his wisdom and stories.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00pm, Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Boyd Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be at 10:00am, Friday, June 26, 2026, at the Carlisle Methodist Church. A graveside will follow at the Old Carlisle Cemetery with the Military Honors.
