J.W. Lucas passed away peacefully on June 15, 2021, in Little Rock, Arkansas. J.W. was born to Horace L Lucas and Verda Maine Lucas in Stringtown, Ok,
He is survived by his wife Barbara Fought Rye Lucas; children, Pam Lucas Moore (Gene), Dixie Lucas Harder (Jerry), Jeff Lucas (Trini), Robyn Lucas Riddle (Michael), Jay Wesley Lucas: two step daughters, Darla Rye Blowers (Al) and Marta Rye Dulaney (Lenard): eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
He joined the Marines and served until he received an honorable discharge in May 1947. He then graduated from OK A&M in Stillwater, OK, as an Electrical Technician and worked with the Pearson Company in Dallas, along with several engineering offices while getting his own electrical engineering degree. He opened his own firm as Lucas & Assoc. in Little Rock, AR.
J.W. was an only child. He traveled to many states hauling gravel or logs, picking fruit and cotton, wherever the money was. J.W. learned a valuable work ethic from his hard working parents, which was to work every day, do it right the first time and save your money. Jay had his own firm until he retired. He and his wife Barbara built Mallard Point Golf Course and Mallard Point Estates in Lonoke, Arkansas in 2002, which meant working sun up to sun down for the both of them for ten years. He retired again to their home in Little Rock, in 2012. He still worked cutting weeds, grass and trees that overcame our beautiful yard. He died at the age of 93 after enjoying a very brief “actual retirement”
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make a contribution in Jay’s name to your local cancer center.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friends on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at 2:30PM at Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke Arkansas.
