Jerry Duane Schafer, 78, passed away November 14, 2015. He was the son of the late Raymond and Nadine Schafer, also preceding him in death was his son, Mark Schafer, a brother, Bennie Ray Schafer, and mother-in-law, Bertha White.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Nellie Ann Schafer; son, Neil Schafer (Carol); grandson, Dereck Schafer; granddaughter, Amber Schafer; sister, Cindy Jackson (Jim); nephews, Christopher and Brandon.
Born on the family farm in Lonoke, he was a lifelong resident of Lonoke County and farmed up until the day of his death. He was a pioneer in the baitfish industry. Jerry was a member of the Lonoke First United Methodist Church, a graduate of Lonoke High School, he attended University of Central Arkansas, he was also a past member of Flying Farmer of Arkansas and past member of Southwest Navion Air Group. Jerry enjoyed flying his family on many vacation destinations, and was also an avid hunter, enjoying spending time with his family and his dogs.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, November 15, at 2:00 PM in Lonoke Cemetery pavilion. The family asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Lonoke First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
