David B. Calvert, 91, of Carlisle, passed away Monday, April 26, 2021. He was born on July 15, 1929, the first child of David C. and Jewel Churchwell Calvert. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 50 years, Audrey Weaver Calvert, and two sisters, Bernice Mashburn and Alice Tye.
David started first grade in the Snake Island school and went through the 8th grade before leaving to start work. He joined the U.S. Army and was a corporal serving in Company B of the 185th Signal Battalion. After being discharged from the army, he began a farming career that lasted 30 years. He farmed as a sharecropper then later for himself. After leaving farming, he began working for Elder Drilling in Carlisle. He completed 30 years of service there before retiring for good. He was a member of the Hamilton Missionary Baptist Church, past President of the Hamilton Cemetery Association, and was the oldest member of the Rollie Crowder Post of the American Legion in Carlisle. David enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life. One of his greatest joys in later life was time spent with his sons and grandchildren at Calvert Hunting Club in Tichnor. He also loved Saturday nights at Big K’s Fish Barn.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, David E. & Jean Calvert, of Carlisle; Carroll and Linda Jo Calvert, of Edgemont; Mike & Kay Calvert, of Cabot; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Chris Almond, of Carlisle; brother and sister-in-law, Marion and Patricia Calvert of New Edinburg; grandchildren David A., Joseph, Dustin, Blake, Lindsay, Kaitlin, Jackson, Isaiah, Aidan & Karsyn; 11 great-grandchildren, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on April 27, 2021 from 5:00-8:00PM at Boyd Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 10:00AM on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at Hamilton Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Hamilton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Hamilton Cemetery. Arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home.
