Anna Burgess
January 17, 1921 — December 30, 2013
Anna Lou Burgess, age 92, died December 30, 2013. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, J.H. “Jake” Burgess, Jr.; grandson John H. “Bert” Burgess, IV, and her infant daughter Rita June Burgess; mother, Elizabeth Love; father Herbert Van Pless; brothers Earl, Edward, and Gaines Pless; and sister Maudine Holmes. Survivors include her son, John H. “Sonny” Burgess, III and his wife Virgie; granddaughter Ginger and her husband John Schmidt and two great-grandchildren Jessica and Jake Schmidt; three sisters Hazel Conway, Mildred Jones and Carolyn Fisher; three brothers, Harold, Bob, and Herschel Leon Pless; and host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Anna Lou was a lifelong member of Caney Creek Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and was instrumental in ensuring there was always children’s programs. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday, January 3, at Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 4 at Caney Creek Baptist Church with interment in Hicks Cemetery.
