Alton Petty

Alton Petty of Biscoe, Arkansas passed away on September 18, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on November 16, 1947 in Brinkley, Arkansas, to Cecil and Gene Petty of Biscoe, Arkansas, he proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1970. During his service he received the National Defense Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He served with distinction in the Vietnam War and was stationed in Guam. Prior to his military stint he hung the first piece of steel on the I-40 White River Bridge in 1967. Following his military service he worked as a telephone technician with GTE/Centurylink for 36 years. He lived in Biscoe for 70 years and served on the Biscoe city council for over 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Veneta Petty of Washington, NC; his sons Jay Petty and wife Tina of Grimesland, NC, and Jeff Petty and wife Jennifer of Biscoe, Arkansas; his grandchildren, Caleb Petty and his wife Madison of Chocowinity, NC, and Sarah Petty of Grimesland, NC; great-granddaughter Brooklyn Petty of Chocowinity, NC; and one brother, Joe Petty of Bradford, Arkansas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Gene Petty; sister-in-law Rachel Petty; and niece Elizabeth Petty. Whether he was working on cars, drag racing, or cruising, his passion for old cars brought him great joy. Whenever you needed to find him all you had to do was look in “the yard”. He was also an avid motocross racer with the nickname “Chainsaw Charlie” who won the 1971 Arkansas Amateur State Title. Alton was known for his jokes, pranks, and all-around sense of humor and huge personality. He had a way of making life more enjoyable for all those he was around. He also spent countless hours coaching kids in baseball as well as playing on adult softball leagues. He had a special place in his heart for his family as well as any child in need. A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 10 am at Biscoe Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Racers for Christ in honor of Alton Petty.
