Music by The Piano Brothers

Bobby Andrew Mashburn, born February 16, 1939, went to be with his maker early Thursday morning, July 27, 2017, after a difficult battle with cancer. Through his recent suffering and all during his life, Bobby remained close to God, and a faithful follower and fine example to others of what a Christian should be.

Bobby was preceded in death by his mother Mary Ella DeVinney Mashburn and father James Clee Mashburn.  He is survived by his wife Bonnie Bernice, two sons, Michael Andrew of Stuttgart and Ricky Lynn of Jonesboro, Bobby acquired two daughters, Earlene Tyler (Larry) of Traskdale and Jeraldene Hawkins (Jimmy) of Mt Vernon when he married Bonnie Bernice. Also surviving are his siblings, Lynn Lockie of Greenbriar, Betty Pruett of Lonoke and James (Margaret) Mashburn of Ward.

The Mashburn family were taught to be hard workers. Bobby was born in Galveston, Texas, but grew up in a loving family of siblings around Culler, Carlisle and Lonoke, growing cotton. Life was good but hard on him. He lost his dad when he was just a little boy of seven. No doubt those childhood experiences were influential in Bobby’s strong work ethics. Bobby was known to exceed the limit fishing on Peckerwood lake with his son Ricky.

In 1960 Bobby started working in Stuttgart at Acme Electric. Eventually he became a partner, then full owner. The free work favors for friends and charity to those in need are far too numerous to count.

Bobby was a proud member of the National Guard from 1957-1963. He was security for the Little Rock Nine and J.F. Kennedy’s dedication of Greers Ferry Dam.

Bobby was highly active on the school board and he fondly recalled his involvement when Stuttgart School System was developing the best VoTech programs in the state. The Civitan Club profited by his active membership. He was dedicated in his service to the Boy Scouts and more than dear to his heart was his membership and serving as a Deacon at Park Avenue Baptist Church. He was always smiling, treating everyone he saw with a kind word. Those among us who witnessed his song leading and special singing will always remember that high tenor.

Bobby and Bernice had 28 years together enjoying their 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and nine great great-grandchildren. There are so many friends and loved ones who will fondly remember Bobby and he greatly loved you all. For his was a big heart, full of love and kindness with well wishes and a deep caring for the souls of one and all.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, July 29 at Park Ave Baptist Church in Stuttgart. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Church.

So sorry to hear about Bobby. He was a fine person whom I admired and respected. I got to know Bobby and his sons when I came to Park Avenue as Minister of Music and Youth. I got to know his family especially his two boys. I would stay at Bobby's house on Sunday after church and have dinner with the crew. He will be missed and always have a special place in my heart. Rocky you had a great dad.

Dear Mashburn Family,
I am deeply sorry to hear of your loss. As part of my ministry work I try to offer a brief word of comfort to families since this may be one of the hardest things any of us will ever have to endure.

If possible, please consider what Jesus said to Martha right before he resurrected Lazarus.

John 11:25-26
“I am the resurrection and the life. He that exercises faith in me, even though he dies, will come to life; and everyone that is living and exercises faith in me will never die at all. Do you believe this?"

I also encourage family members to take Paul's counsel to heart:

2 Corinthians 1:3-4
"Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our trials so that we may be able to comfort others in any sort of trial with the comfort that we receive from God."

I hope this note serves as a strengthening aide during this difficult time for your family.

Sincerely,

Calvin
